SVDM'S BRUTUS SCOOPED UP BY COLLECTOR AT CHEFS WHO SHARE GALA EVENT
In early July, Cape Town artist Schalk van der Merwe, was approach to get involved with Chefs Who Share.
Last night, this annual black-tie, charity gala featuring 14 chefs, 7 sommeliers and an auction focusing on South African art,was hosted at the Cape Town City Hall. Donated artworks from top South African artists like Lionel Smit, Jimmy Law, David Kuijers, Richard Scott, Heike Allerton-Davies, Keith Calder and Anton Smit,
to mention a few, were auctioned for charity.
Schalk's bold and provocative artwork, Brutus, was one of the pieces that created a lot of interest and discussion with local and international collectors. After some furious bidding in the packed room, Brutus, was sold to a private collector for R60 000.
"To be included in such an elite event with so many talented artists, was an incredible honour. Knowing that the money raised from my artwork will make a difference in the life of someone else, is truly humbling", says Schalk.
All the funds raised at the function went to the different charities involved in the evening. For more information on the artist and the event, visit www.svdmstudio.com and www.chefswhoshares.com.
